It was a classic matchup---scrappy versus size. Today, size was the winner, with the Wildcats' height advantage enabling them to dominate the boards and capitalize on second-chance shots.
St. Dan's led 11-4 at the break, and maintained the pace for a 21-8 final.
Yet as they have all season, the well-coached Knights 3rd/4th graders played fast, aggressive and with a lot of heart, right up to the final buzzer---much to the repeated roars of approval from the St. Joseph fans in the stands---moms, dads, sisters, brothers, grandmas, grandpas and other friends of the school---who outnumbered the St. Dan's fans nearly 2-1 and whose cheers could be heard almost a block away, in the Hale School parking lot.
The buzz among SJS fans after the game was that these third and fourth graders did themselves proud---as well as their parents, grandparents, coaches and the school as a whole---and that they have a long and bright future ahead in St. Joseph School athletics.
Hold your heads high, kids. Congratulations!
