Open House Set for Sunday, January 29th

The weather outside may be frightful, but the atmosphere inside St. Joseph School is delightful! St. Joseph School in Summit extends a warm welcome to anyone who wishes to attend their Open House. Affectionately referred to by parents, staff and students as "the small school with a big heart," St. Joseph School prides itself on its warm, family-like environment. The event will take place on Sunday, January 29, 2012 at 10:30 a.m., immediately following the 9:30 a.m. Catholic Schools Week Opening Mass. This is an excellent opportunity to meet your neighbors, enjoy warm refreshments, view student artwork, and discover the heart of the St. Joseph School community. The principal, teachers and staff will be on hand to greet visitors and answer questions. The Open House serves as a way to thank the community for its support and to invite prospective new families to join the school and church.

Now is the time to seriously consider who will be educating and caring for your children in preschool to eighth grade. St. Joseph School prides itself on strong academics, faith based values, secure before & after school care, active sports teams, leadership opportunities, an emphasis on community service, and fun-filled extracurricular activities? As a small school with a big heart, the collaboration between parents, clergy, teachers, staff and students, allows for a “Home-Away-From-Home” environment, where children feel safe, secure and loved. The warm and inviting setting excites children about coming to school and encourages their eagerness to learn. Nestled on a quiet, suburban street, St. Joseph School provides an academic safe haven for all its children.

St. Joseph School students benefit from the knowledge of caring, certified classroom teachers in all the traditional subjects, such as math, science, reading, writing, social studies and gym. To reinforce the sense of Catholic Identity all the classroom teachers are certified Catechists. Religion classes are taught daily in every classroom. Special subjects are offered to all students to expand horizons through foreign language and technology. St. Joseph School students attend a weekly sacred music class, benefit from weekly computer classes and are well prepared for High School via weekly Spanish language classes.

St. Joseph School students consistently score exceptionally well on High School entrance exams. The students in St. Joseph's most recent graduating class were all accepted to the High Schools where they applied. St. Joseph School combats illiteracy by utilizing the Accelerated Reader Program and the “Super Kids” reading program. Children achieve their maximum potential as highly literate young readers, which was clearly evident on St. Joseph's most recent standardized test scores. The school library entices young readers to put their literacy skills to good use and enter the magical and informative world of literature.

Community involvement, faith formation and service to those in need is stressed daily by the dedicated faculty and staff. Service opportunities include Altar Servers, Children's Mass Choir and Student Council. St. Joseph students also have the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities that include chess club, student council, newspaper staff, yearbook staff, and a variety of sports teams including basketball, volleyball, bowling and floor hockey. Students also have the opportunity to enroll in band at various levels based upon the child’s experience.
